Pig Breeding & Health
The LBH breed is a heritage breed from England renowned for their excellent meat. They forage a large percentage of their diet, making them the ideal pastured pig. Our pigs are rotated from woodland areas where they eat nuts, roots and grasses. Later in the summer they are moved to pastures that have been planted with Non-Gmo grains, grasses, turnips, and cabbage to feast on. This feeding program makes a delicious marbled meat that you cannot find in the grocery store. All animals raised on our farm are hormone and antibiotic free!
Large Black Hogs
One advantage of our farm is that our pigs are bred from our own stock, creating a safer environment for all our livestock. Unlike other farms that purchase "feeder pigs" from other farms and then raise them until market weight, we can ensure that diseases are not spread from farm to farm and stand behind the health of our animals.
If we enlarge our herd, we place the new animals in a quarantined pasture for a period of time until we are certain that they are disease free and will not harm our current livestock.
Baby pigs are raised by their protective mothers and are weaned when she decides it is time. Sows dig shallow wells in the earth that they line with grasses and straw to create a nest. This keeps the baby pigs close by while she is giving birth and makes for easy feeding as she positions herself on the rim of the nest to give everyone access to her teats.
If you are interested in purchasing some Large Black Hogs for your farm please contact us and we will reserve the pigs of your choice from our next litters. To qualify for LBH status, the breed must have a 20% and under inbreeding coefficient. Our farm boasts a low 7.7% inbreeding coefficient, making our pigs some of the best!
Select Large Black Hog pigs are available when they have reached butchering weight. LBH are renowned for their bacon, marbled meat and juicyness. Contact us to reserve your whole or 1/2 hog.
